Katie Ann McGuigan is the London-based brand redefining womenswear through innovative print design and graphic silhouettes.
The Irish-born designer studied BA Fashion Design Womenswear at the University of Westminster, gaining further experience working in London at McQ by Alexander McQueen and in New York with Marc Jacobs. Just a year after graduating, McGuigan presented her debut collection for AW17, with the print-heavy designs winning her the Fashion Scout Merit Award. McGuigan also went on to receive the Mittlemoda Absolute Prize later that year.
For McGuigan, designing is a constant journey of discovery. She takes inspiration from both the aesthetic and values of international subcultures – particularly the environmental and cultural factors that draw these communities together. Past influences include the Irish Gypsies who informed her graduate collection to 1970s footballers and the Japanese Bōsōzoku biker women.
Though the subculture references change from season to season, Katie Ann McGuigan’s use of contrasting textures, graphic prints and contemporary shapes remain the consistent, recognisable trademark within the narrative that evolves with each collection.
Made in London
Katie Ann McGuigan’s aim is to keep everything local: all of her designs are made in London. The brand uses London-based sewing technicians, pattern drafters, shoemakers and factories. The majority of fabric used is also sourced in London, such as yarn from Wool and the Gang, with some specialist materials from elsewhere in England.
